These pages contain information transferred from www.volunteer.on.ca, which from April 2003 to January 2007 was the website of the Ontario Network of the Canada Volunteerism Initiative. You'll find the resources they collected and developed, as well as information on two major initiatives - Municipalities & Volunteerism and the 40-hour Program.

The network, hosted by PAVR-O, closed because the federal government withdrew funding for the entire national initiative.

What was the Canada Volunteerism Initiative?

The goal of the Canada Volunteerism Initiative (CVI) was to strengthen volunteerism across Canada by

  • encouraging Canadians to participate in voluntary organizations,
  • improving the capacity of organizations to benefit from volunteers and
  • enhancing the experience of volunteering.

CVI began in late 2002 as a result of the Voluntary Sector Initiative and had five year funding from Heritage Canada. It was managed nationally by Volunteer Canada and the Imagine Canada and delivered across the country by provincial networks.

Professional Administrators of Volunteer Resources - Ontario (PAVR-O) managed the CVI network in Ontario. The Ontario Network had a 15+ person voluntary steering committee and additional sub-committees. The network was responsible for delivering the national programs in Ontario and developed an action plan for volunteerism in Ontario.
