Background

PAVR-O, the Professional Administrators of Volunteer Resources- Ontario is a provincial membership-driven association which promotes professional standards of excellence in the administration of volunteer resources throughout Ontario . Members include over 300 paid and unpaid staff who engage volunteers to fulfill the mission and goals of their non profit organizations within the many diverse sectors of the field.

They are often titled: Managers, Administrators, Coordinators or Directors of Volunteers.

In order to gain a better understanding of the range and scope of salaries for these positions, PAVR- O administered an Ontario-wide survey in March 2009. This is the first survey PAVR-O has undertaken to gather information on salaries and benefits. The results of this survey will be used as a benchmark for future comparisons along with sector comparisons. When the survey closed on March 31, 2009, there were 511 respondents.

The next updates from the Salary Survey will focus on one category at a time and explore average hours worked and number of volunteers engaged. Since the title Coordinator full-time and Coordinator part-time had over 273 responses we will commence with that position.

Coordinator of Volunteers

The third report in our series of survey results looks at the position title of Coordinator and what sectors respondents represent, the average hours worked, the number of volunteers and average salary for this job title. Upon reflection, we learned a lot about management of volunteers and how difficult it is to define our work. Many manage volunteers as a portion of their full time jobs and as a result our information may not be as accurate as we had hoped. We need to reframe our questions for the future, however this is a valuable start.

Title of Coordinator was held by 316 of the survey respondents
