Workshop Abstract:
As a member of a Board of Directors, do you often struggle to find enough of the right people to fill the seats at the table?
Do you find that the same people fill the same positions year after year, limiting the supply of innovative ideas and leading to burnout?
Understanding the skills and strategies to recruit for Boards, successfully engage your members, and create workable succession plans can solve many of the problems that plague not-for-profit Boards.
In this workshop, we will cover simple skills for recruiting and engaging Board members, and how to prepare for when a member steps away.

Ideas for what to look for in a potential Board member;
Tips for finding your ideal member;
Ideas for what to say (and not say!) when recruiting;
Guidelines for onboarding a new member so they feel comfortable;
Suggestions for retention; and
Steps for creating an effective succession plan.
Having the right people at the Board table, and having those people happy to be there, makes the running of the organization that much easier.

Karen Knight has been providing volunteer engagement advice, mentoring and training for not-for-profit organizations for over 25 years.
