Important Reasons you should attend a conference in your field:

#1 - Invest in Yourself!  Admit that you’re worth it! It’s an investment in yourself, your career, and even your organization. When you purchase that conference ticket and when you walk up to the registration desk, you’re saying that you’re investing in your own growth.

Sharpen the Saw: If you have ever attended a conference you know that you will return with new ideas and approaches that make you more effective and efficient at work.

Meet Experts & Influencers Face to Face: Here is a great chance to get a few minutes to speak one-on-one or ask an expert for feedback. This could never happen during an online session.

Networking Opportunities: There is no substitution for meeting someone in person. Conferences provide great opportunities for attendees to mix and mingle, form new relationships, and strengthen existing ones. And who knows, you may find yourself sitting beside your next mentor or mentee!

New Tools: While these can be found online, attending conference is a great way to get a hands-on demonstration and ask questions that are specific to the daily challenges in your field.

Learning in a New Space/Breaking Out of Your Comfort Zone: It’s SO easy to find ourselves in a rut. Sitting in the same chair, in the same office can keep us from fresh thinking and new ideas. Breaking out of the office and sitting in a new space can spark us to new approaches that will grow our organizations. Sometimes we need to take to break out of old ways of thinking to get us out of a rut!

New Tips & Tactics: We can find information about almost anything online but conferences help you cut through the clutter.

Greater Focus: The flip side of learning new things is relearning classic techniques!

The Energy of Like-Minded Individuals: There’s nothing like being in a room of like-minded people. Other people who are willing to take time away from the office to learn something new and “better” themselves.

The Serendipity of the Random Workshop:  It's so true that some of the best workshops and presentations are the ones you had no idea about before the conference.

Takeaways: A good conference forces you to grow and challenge yourself. And if you’re the boss, allowing your employees to get out of the office, gain confidence in their ability, and bring fresh ideas back to your colleagues is just an investment in your own company.

Why Your Employer Should Send you to Conference

Getting approval to attend a conference can be a challenge. But you can take the initiative and show your leaders why and how your attendance to PAVRO LiVE 2023 will strengthen your performance, benefit your organization and those you serve.

Here are tips for getting employer support:

  • Describe what you will gain or obtain by attending, and how that will benefit your work as a Volunteer Engagement Professional and your organization's goals.
  • Prepare a plan showing that you will have coverage and how critical work will get done while you are away.
  • Offer to carpool and/or room share to reduce expenses.
  • Offer to share what you have learned with your colleagues and/or the leadership team, so that others will receive the benefits of your attendance, too. You can place unlimited amounts of material from the conference on a flash drive and share it in a cloud-based folder for everyone to access. Having the extra responsibility of bringing something back to the team assures your leader that you will be present and engaged during the conference.
  • Networking is one of the most popular reasons people cite for attending a conference. There's an incredible amount of sharing, learning and leveraging that can happen. This can be a win/win for you and your organization.
  • Social media: These days, if you look around a room at a conference you’ll see many people tweeting snippets and stats using conference hashtags. If your organization is on social media being part of the conference buzz is a great way to promote its name, commitment and investment in its people.
