How to become a Mentor or Mentee
One of the advantages that a PAVRO membership can provide in offering a mentor program is the ability to connect with the expertise and experience of a strong core of Volunteer Engagement Professional from across the province. This important program is open to all PAVRO members. All of the participants who have successfully completed their partnerships have recommended the program. **PAVRO Mentorship Moments - Exciting new twist coming for 2022!**
In response to feedback from our members, the PAVRO Mentorship Committee is excited to announce the pilot of a new platform for providing mentorship and sharing amongst peers called Mentorship Moments held the 2nd Monday of each month, in the afternoon.
Please let us know what time works best for you, answer this 1 question: Doodle Poll. Our first meeting will be a meet and greet on February 14th, 2022 to help establish topics for upcoming meetings. Time TBD
These monthly, 1-hour virtual sessions provide the opportunity for those members looking for support to submit their challenges ahead of the sessions, so mentors and peers with expertise can be ready for the discussion. Following the sessions, there will also be an opportunity for short-term, project-based matches, for those who would like more in-depth support.
We listened when Mentors, mentees and members told us they wanted mentorship and networking opportunities with less formality and commitment than what was offered by the Mentorship program. The goal with Mentorship Moments is to offer this support and sharing in a flexible, dynamic format that will be more in line with your needs.

As a mentee you can:

Requirements
There are many factors that contribute to a positive mentor/mentee relationship. We ask that you consider the following before applying for the mentor program.
- You, mentor or mentee, hold a current PAVRO membership
- You have a specific skill or goal you want to accomplish. We recommend a maximum of 2 development goals
- You are able to commit to a full year of professional development (January – December)
- You are able to commit to a minimum of four hours per month. The mentor and mentee will determine frequency, method and duration
- You will commit to being prepared for each meeting.
- You have the support from your employer to participate in the mentor program including time required during work hours and long distance phone calls. (PAVRO is not able to provide financial assistance for any expenses associated with this program)
- You will complete a program evaluation
Selection Criteria
Each application will be assessed on an individual basis to ensure the applicant’s goals align with the goals of the mentor program. For applicants where the management of volunteers is a percentage of their role / responsibilities, there must be a demonstrated commitment to meeting the Mentor Program requirements. Mentors and mentees must have the support from their employers / supervisors to commit to the program particularly if the partners will be scheduling meetings during business hours.
- Compatibility between the mentees learning goals and the mentors expertise
- Similarities in the types of organizations where the partners work or have worked
- Skills, experiences and learning objective
- Geographic location
- Time availability

PAVRO Mentor Program Committee Member
Are you interested in becoming a Mentor Program committee member? We are looking for committee members to ensure the continued success of the Mentor Program. If you are interested in program review, process improvement and working collaboratively with other members in the field of Volunteer Management, this committee may be for you.
